DUBAI, United Arab Emirates / RankWire.AI / – Apple’s iPhone Duo marks the moment foldable phones move from experimental luxury toward mainstream computing, according to a review by Ajay Rajguru, founder and CEO of MENA Newswire. Apple avoided the category for years while rivals struggled with visible creases, reflective glass and awkward screen shapes. The iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable smartphone, went on sale on October 23 starting at $1,999. The review finds a polished design that still carries clear trade-offs for buyers.

The device follows a wider, shorter passport design. Its 5.4-inch outer display is built for one-handed tasks such as replying to messages or paying with Apple Pay. Unfolded, the 7.6-inch inner screen offers a work surface similar to an iPad mini. The phone measures 5.2 mm thick when open and 11.3 mm when closed, and weighs 254 grams. Its frame uses grade 5 titanium, and the hinge contains more than 100 components.
Nano-texture screen and Touch ID
Apple applies its nano-texture matte finish to the inner display. Rather than reflecting light like glossy ultra-thin glass, the etched surface scatters it, which the review says makes the center crease much harder to notice. A slight valley can still be felt when a finger runs across the screen. Peak brightness reaches 3,000 nits. Apple first showed the iPhone Duo at its September event alongside the new iPhone 18 lineup.
The biggest change for longtime iPhone users is biometrics. Apple dropped Face ID on the Duo and placed a Touch ID sensor in the side button, which works whether the phone is folded or open. A FaceTime camera sits under the inner display, giving an edge-to-edge canvas for video. The review notes that the under-display camera produces slightly softer images than standard front cameras, despite processing that reduces haze.
A20 Pro chip and market demand
The phone runs on Apple’s 2nm A20 Pro chip with a 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU. A vapor chamber spreads heat across both halves to limit throttling during gaming and video export. iOS 27 Split View lets two apps run side by side, and the screens support Apple Pencil input. Two batteries totaling 4,883 mAh deliver up to 24 hours of mixed use, and the phone charges to 50% in about 20 minutes.
The review says strong demand and limited early supply have pushed resale prices well above retail. It cites U.S. street prices of $2,600 to $3,100 and premiums in Dubai trading hubs of up to AED 16,500, against an official price of AED 8,499. According to the review, waitlists for 512GB and 1TB models stretch six to eight weeks. It adds that Apple raised its first-year production target by more than 40%.
The review also lists challenges. Developers need to build multi-column tablet layouts rather than stretch phone apps. Apple should address reports that the screen stiffens in near-freezing temperatures. Android rivals such as Samsung, which recently added a titanium frame to its Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, may need to rethink tall, narrow designs. The lack of Face ID and a periscope telephoto lens will disappoint some buyers, but the review calls the Duo the most cohesive foldable available.
